Baby Born With Heart Outside Her Body Survives

A five week old baby was born with her heart outside her body. This condition is one what frequently results in death. This time, doctors were able to preform surgery and save little Audrina Cardenas. It is unknown what her long term prognosis will be, but right now, she is doing well. The technical name for the condition that Audrina was born with is Ectopia cordis. It is a congenital condition, which means that it is “present from birth” (or before birth). It means that the baby’s heart was not in the place where it was supposed to be located. … Continue reading

Spice Up Your Halloween Story

When it comes down to it, a scrapbook layout is really an adventure in storytelling. Photos, embellishments, memorabilia, captions and journaling all help recount a special memory and preserve it for years to come. With Halloween just around the corner, now is the time to start strategizing holiday layouts. Consider how you want to tell the tale of your All Hallows’ Eve festivities. For example, if you want to put an emphasis on photos rather than write out lengthy journaling blocks, consider spicing up the shots by taking them from unique angles. Experiment with some extreme close ups and or … Continue reading

The Other Side of the Vetoed Voucher Bill

There are two sides to every story. A Special Education bill in New York recently got vetoed by Governor Andrew Cuomo. He felt the bill would place an undue burden on taxpayers. The other side feels that this bill was “misunderstood”. Governor Andrew Cuomo vetoed a bill that would have required public school officials to consider the “home life and family background” of a Special Education student when making decisions about placement of that student into a school. Right now, federal law allows a student who is enrolled in the Special Education program of a public school to be assigned … Continue reading

President Obama is a Descendant of John Punch

President Barack Obama seems to be a fascinating person to do genealogy research on. His family tree has revealed a connection between himself and some rather unlikely relatives. A genealogist from Ancestry.com has determined that Obama is related to John Punch, who was a Virginia slave. For many genealogists, there is something uniquely captivating about the family tree of President Barack Obama. Perhaps the attraction is entirely because he is the current President of the United States. Maybe the interest has something to do with the fact that this is an election year, and people are starting to want to … Continue reading

The Side of the Mistress

Earlier this week I watched a frustrating segment on “The View.” The ladies were interviewing Rielle Hunter, mistress of former presidential candidate John Edwards. Rielle is known for stealing the charming Mr. Edwards from his wife, Elizabeth, during the time she was battling cancer. She ended up getting pregnant and the whole controversy ended his political career. So now, as always happens, she has come out with a new book in which she tells “her side.” I love it…the side of the mistress, as if we really need some type of justification. While I have no intention on reading the … Continue reading

My Best Advice for Blogging

Content is still king: No matter how the winds blow or the tides change the most important factor in writing is content. You must put out quality content to gain and keep readers. What is quality content? Content that effects a reader. Does your content encourage, enlighten, or engage? Are you teaching something, informing, or making your readers laugh? Readers are probably not interested in your last trip to the grocery store unless you demonstrate extreme couponing or have some antidote that is worth mentioning a trip to the grocery story. A blog post is a gift to your readers. … Continue reading
