Get Your Birthday Obligations Organized

January is a great month to get organized with all of those birthdays, anniversaries and other holidays that you want to remember. With an organized system, you’ll never be late again. I started this type of system because I had a habit of either forgetting birthdays completely, or only sending out a card or a gift after someone else reminded me that a birthday had past. Not only is this embarrassing, but it gives my friends and loved ones the idea that I don’t care (which I do). Here are some of the features I have put together in my … Continue reading

What is the Big Deal about Valentine’s Day?

Valentine’s Day is fast approaching. The shops have stacks of cards and heart shaped decorations out. Yet in a recent article in the Sydney Morning Herald the marketing director of Hallmark, Amanda Del Prete, said, ‘We have had some women say if they want to get an anniversary card from their husband, they have to buy it themselves and give it to them. I think a few people have slipped their husbands some Valentine’s cards as well.’ Doesn’t that defeat the purpose? If he can’t be bothered or forgets or isn’t interested in buying a card, then what’s the point? … Continue reading

Using Scraps for Making Cards

You don’t have to waste your scraps of paper or try to figure out a way to work them into your layouts. Now you can just create some cute cards to give your friends and family and use up those paper scraps. So you aren’t wasting a thing. You don’t even have to be a really creative card maker to use them to create cards your friends and family will cherish. Most people treasure hand made cards, and enjoy them much more than a traditional card from the store. To create the layout pictured, I had selected three coordinating sheets … Continue reading

Special Anniversaries

It’s actually kind of strange the way special anniversaries are designated. For example, there is a 52nd and 67th but the other numbers that don’t end in zero or five are not always represented. I don’t know what makes particular numbers special. Of course, most people celebrate the five and ten year marks, and certain ones have been given greater significance such as silver and golden anniversaries (the 25th and 50th respectively). There are many different lists that describe the types of gifts that should be given and the way in which specific anniversaries should be celebrated. There are traditional … Continue reading

Against All Odds Again

Yesterday was the fourth anniversary of Tommy’s “gotcha day”. Gotcha day is the term used in the adoption community to celebrate and remember the day that a child came to your home to stay. I have already written about the problems that we had with Tommy’s behavior and the fact that he had a “heart scar” down the middle of his chest with no explanation from the state. Tommy came to us one month after his brother Caleb had joined our family. Caleb had a very rough first month of his life. Now that we know almost all of their … Continue reading

Welcome Home Laura!

Laura Spencer returns to General Hospital this week and it’s an event worth mentioning. More than 20 million viewers watched the wedding of Luke and Laura Spencer and for the last four years, Luke has been flying solo on the soap opera while ‘wife’ Laura languishes in a catatonic state off-screen. The absence of Laura is something many fans have been feeling over the last few years as Laura’s children have gone through their ups and downs and Luke has suddenly become this deadbeat dad (something he never was when Laura was up and about.) In Laura’s absence, her eldest … Continue reading

Marriage Inspiration: 50 Years of Marriage +

On Friday, I went to Sam’s to do some shopping and there was a woman there with her husband. He was in a wheelchair and rolled along sedately with her while she was pushing the basket. They were chattering away about everything from the groceries they were looking at to their Halloween plans. The husband was insisting the wife should go with the grandkids and he would take care of the trick or treaters who came to the door. Moments in Time I was on the same aisle with them and I listened to their natural chatter that flowed back … Continue reading

Gifts for Guys

Are you getting ready to celebrate an anniversary? Looking for something special for your husband’s birthday or another special event where you get a chance to give your husband a gift? Some families like to celebrate Christmas in July (yes, Christmas though we’ve still got a few months before we’ll be celebrating that) – choosing a gift for your husband for such occasions can be difficult. Few men like receiving flowers – though truthfully for several years on our anniversary and his birthday, I sent my husband flowers and something else to his office. His co-workers always thought it was … Continue reading
