A Violent End to a Marriage

When I read news stories like the one this morning it really makes me saddened about the state of our world and society. I was horrified to read the news story this morning of a husband who killed his 30 year old wife. Using his own gun Scott Hain killed his wife Melanie, while she was on a video call talking to a male friend. The husband later killed himself.

The horrific incident raises lots of questions. What goes through the heads of some people and how far have selfish obsessions taken over that a man would kill his wife? What happened to love, that he could do such a thing was the first question that came to my mind. Not only love he once had for his wife but for family as well. Even if he no longer loved his wife or was angry or jealous or whatever, how could he do such a thing with no thought for what such an act would do to their children.

It's bad enough for someone to see this happen but it's the children I keep thinking about. What affect will this have on them and the way they view life?

Now maybe your marriage isn't in such dire straits, as that marriage apparently was for such an event to occur. It doesn't have to be murder, or even physical and verbal abuse. Even the little acts of selfishness and unkindness between a married couple are picked up on by children.

They see what happens in a relationship for good or for bad and what they see helps shape their own attitudes. So I'm suggesting today we each take a good look at out marriages and the way we treat each other and see what sort of an example we are setting for the next generation. Will they see a marriage where selflessness and love and concern is modeled or one where selfishness has taken over? We each have the choice of what we do, day by day moment by moment.
