How Do You Define Enough Time?

Have you ever found yourself saying you don’t have enough time? I do, all the time and though I know it’s more of a mental perception than a real one, (if you’re saying ‘huh’ right now, bear with me, I’ll explain this) I still find myself making the comment that I don’t have enough time. In fact, many times the statement begins with, if I had enough time I would … … go back to school … finish that quilt … spend more time with my husband … read more books … finish more of my craft projects … get … Continue reading

World Marriage Day

Did you know that today is World Marriage Day? I felt so dramatically unprepared for the arrival of this day when I read it in my news alerts a little while ago. Now I admit, I’ve been feeling pretty rotten today. Because I haven’t felt good at all, I’ve not done much in the way of work or even scanning my news stories. So what is World Marriage Day? That’s a really good question! World Marriage Day In 1981, in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, couples encourages the Mayor, the Governor and even the local Bishop to proclaim February 14 as a … Continue reading

Simplify Your Lives

Sometimes, I think we create many of our own problems. Generally, I have this thought when I consider how complicated our lives become – no, become is the wrong word – we make things more complicated. The choices we make in life can often influence how complicated or uncomplicated they become. Before you say it, I know that there are some complications we can’t predict and we can’t control. But for those issues and matters we can control and we can affect – it certainly wouldn’t hurt us to make our lives a little less complicated. Over the last few … Continue reading

Am I Bored or Am I Boring?

It’s a different day in a different year and yet when I woke up this morning and tore off the page on the calendar for the last time and put up the new one, I had to be somewhat amused. Last night, my husband and I decided to forgo any of the parties and celebrations. We hung out together and had Arby’s roast beef sandwiches for dinner. It was nice to just hang out and enjoy ourselves having a quiet evening together. Are We Bored? This is a question many married couples may ask of themselves or of each other … Continue reading

A Moment of Quiet Reflection

I wanted to take a moment while it was quiet here in the house (my husband took the kids to do some errands) and before we make good on a promise to our daughter to go see the film Happy Feet to reflect on the year that lies behind us. Part of the cleaning up of the previous year includes packing away the memories, savoring the good and letting go of the bad. Good Memories We savor the good memories because good memories, like a fine wine, grow far sweeter as they age. Think of the moments and feelings that … Continue reading

Where Do You See Your Marriage in the New Year?

Is your marriage growing stronger and better with each year that passes, or are you still finding marriage to be a struggle? Sometimes, both apply at the same time. We grow closer and more mature, but life still throws some daunting challenges our way. It is however, much less stressful to work through challenges when you and your spouse are committed to each other and to your marriage. Do you have plans for New Year’s Eve and for the months to follow? Do you have goals and dreams as a couple or have you made New Year’s resolutions together? One … Continue reading

Happy Boxing Day

So where does the tradition of Boxing Day come from? For some it mean emptying the alms boxes onto the street for the poor. For others it means breaking the locks on the poor boxes and returning what money can be returned. My grandmother used to tease that Boxing Day was the day we boxed up all our items for the trash or for donation – broken items going to the trash with the stuff in good condition going to the Salvation Army. Personal Traditions The day after Christmas in my family has always done two things, one is to … Continue reading

How to Rediscover Dreams

I love Christmas. I have always loved Christmas. It’s not just the music, the lights, the festivities of it, though I do love them as well. It is not just the tale of the Nativity though who could not be captivated by the tale of the couple making their way slowly on a long and uncomfortable journey with a very pregnant woman who ended up giving birth in a stable because there was no room for them in the Inn. Dreaming Dreaming is an important part of marriage. When we seek to marry, we look for the man or the … Continue reading

The Marriage Week in Review for December 9-15

Here we are, just over 2 weeks into December and closing in on Christmas. December started off hectic for me and doesn’t show any signs of slowing down – though my vow to keep things simple has actually paid off a great deal. Yesterday was the capper to the week as we celebrated the holidays at my daughter’s school, gave out gifts and delivered gently used items to charity and more. My husband is back to work and while he is still not 100% recovered, he is doing great and enjoying getting around more. We’ve got a lot to do … Continue reading
