A Recovering Nag

There is a Bible verse that says a nagging wife is like a constant dripping. Doesn’t the thought of listening to a faucet dripping rattle your insides? So imagine how it feels to a spouse. After a while you start to sound like Charlie Brown’s teacher. Her voice was like someone speaking into a megaphone, all muffled. Now here is the downside to nagging. If you don’t nag, sometimes things just won’t get done. I know…because I have been waiting for some things in this house to get done for six years. I’m not kidding. It has actually become a … Continue reading

Recovering After Pregnancy

Although the birth of each of my sons was different, I have noticed a similarity between the two experiences in how I feel afterwards. The overall theme of what I felt after my first pregnancy and what I am feeling now is to get up, get out, get moving, and otherwise resume my normal daily activities. As I share my experience in the pregnancy recovery department, please keep in mind that since each woman and each pregnancy is different, your plan for pregnancy recovery and resumption of daily activities should be discussed with your doctors or midwives to ensure your … Continue reading

My Biggest Obstacle: Time Management

When I list all the things I do to someone they usually remark, “Wow, you must be the queen of time management.” As my face shows sheer surprise as my eyebrow lifts and I move back taken off balance by such a statement I laugh and reply, “Uh, I try.” I then chide myself for such a lie. I may try from time to time to manage my time but most of the time I am fail and my time is wasted on silly tasks like wondering how many times I can say “time” in a sentence. Is there any … Continue reading

I Don’t Mean to Be a Nag, But…

I am a recovering nag. I think I should just get that out here at the very beginning. I am a nag by nature (or at least I’ve been one for so long I do not know if it is “nature” but it has become ingrained with who I am), but I’m working on it. I acknowledge that I have a problem and I’m on it. Or, at least, I’m trying to be on top of it. I’m trying to release on the need to remind… Part of my problem is that I am impatient. It’s hard for me to … Continue reading

A Street Cat Named Bob

About a month ago a friend lent me a really heartwarming book.  I blew through it in a weekend.  I’ve never done a book review for the Pets blog before, but this seems appropriate.  The book is called “A Street Cat Named Bob: How One Man and His Cat Found Hope on the Streets,” by James Bowen.  Don’t worry: this isn’t a real tear-jerker of a book.  It’s a sweet, inspirational story of how a very special cat inspired a lost man to take control of his own life. James Bowen was a recovering drug addict in London.  He’d just … Continue reading

Bad Habits to Break

We all have habits; some are good and some not so much.  Many of these habits are ones we’ve developed in our marriage, which means that some need to be broken and others need to be developed. Let’s consider some bad habits that can creep up in a marriage.  The first is criticizing.  Isn’t it funny how the things you once found endearing have suddenly become an annoyance?  Or ever notice how after being married for an extended length of time, you only notice the negative qualities in your spouse? Both of these can cause a critical spirit to rise … Continue reading

And the Two Shall Become One

There is a verse in the Bible that says a man and woman will leave their father and mother and the two shall become one. The idea isn’t that you are no longer two separate beings (because you are), but that your lives are now so intertwined with each other that you blend together. The hope is that as you go through marriage, you will make decisions as one. You will love as one. You will stand as one. I don’t know about you. But I don’t always feel like I am “one” with my husband. While there are many … Continue reading

How Video Games Can Help Kids With Special Needs

Video games are more than just “time wasters” or an inexpensive way to have some fun. They can be used as a tool to help children who have a variety of special needs. There are adapted controllers, games designed for kids with specific special needs, and even classroom applications for video games. There are plenty of parents who would describe themselves as “gamers”. These are the people who have been playing video games since they were children, and who are still playing video games today. There are also quite a few parents who feel that all video games are a … Continue reading

Advantages of Food Allergies While Doing Atkins

I am a person who has more food allergies and food intolerances than I’d care to list out for you. Trust me, it would be a very long list. I learned that doing the Atkins diet meant I needed to work it around my allergies. To my surprise, there are some advantages to doing Atkins as an allergic person. One of the very first things I did when I decided to start the Atkins diet was to alter the meal plan I found on the Atkins website. I was allergic to many of the food ingredients that are considered to … Continue reading
