A "Real" Housewives' Weddingby Courtney Mroch | More from this Blogger 27 Jan 2008 03:04 PM Thanks to our new DVR, I was able to record the season finale of one of my favorite shows, the Real Housewives of Orange County. I had missed it when it aired earlier in the week and had forgotten to tape it, but Bravo replayed it this weekend. When we went to see Atonement, I set it to record. And thanks to the magic of the DVR, it was waiting for me to enjoy when we came home. Which I did. I wanted to see the wedding. Lauri, one of the "housewives," got engaged at the end of last season, and this season focused on her impending nuptials. The season finale spent a good deal of time covering her wedding. And what a wedding it was! First of all, "fairy tale" would have come to mind anyway, even if that term hadn't been used 400 times during the episode. Lauri's a beauty and could pass as a real life princess. And George, the man she was marrying, is truly a prince. George is extremely wealthy and lives in a lavish home with beautiful gardens. They decided to capitalize on the setting and use it for their wedding. Holy guacamole! This Tuesday they're having a Housewives reunion show and one of the things they'll cover is how much the wedding cost. "Cha-change!" kept echoing in my ears as I watched. I'd expect her dress to cost a fortune, but that was just the tip of the iceberg. She had makeup artists and hairstylists to tend not only to her and her bridal party, but also to family. Then there were the flowers. Orchids dripping from trees accented with crystals. Roses everywhere you could imagine. Even rose initials above the vine-entwined archway they'd pass through as a couple. Creative, gorgeous, and I imagine cost a pretty penny. To greet guests before the ceremony they had drinks on hand. After the ceremony they had a wonderfully romantic tent to accommodate everyone for a sit down dinner. What a production! It was gorgeous. And fun to attend even if it was done voyeuristically.
