Who Needs a Husband’s Help Christmas Shopping When There’s the Internet?

Last week I griped about how I’m married to a Scrooge and lamented how I’m responsible for making Christmas happen at our house every year by myself. I guess I was feeling sorry for myself when I wrote those because I was stressed. Most of the time everything’s done by now. Decorations have been hung, gifts have been ordered, and this week cards would have been mailed. But I got sick at Thanksgiving, right when Wayne started his three week sabbatical between jobs so we could travel and spend some time together. So instead of doing Christmas I’ve been either … Continue reading

15 Things My Husband Makes Me Grateful For

Happy Thanksgiving! Because today is my favorite day of the year (yep, I do believe I look forward to Thanksgiving even more than my own birthday) I want to take some time to list all I have to be grateful for. Well, I’ll list everything I have to be grateful for in my gratitude journal. Like I did over in Pets, I’ll keep this list category specific. Which means I’ll list all the things I’m grateful for pertaining to Wayne and our marriage. I’m grateful… 1. That we’re together today. 2. That we’ve got to spend the whole week together … Continue reading

Husbands: Do You Have a Can Do Attitude?

We talked about wives nurturing their husbands and today, we’re going to talk to husbands about their attitude. A husband’s attitude can go a long way towards maintaining peace and harmony in the home. It’s important to recognize that many husbands head out of the house to work and are likely gone from 10 to 12 hours a day. As a wife who works from home, the time that my husband is home is precious to me and it can be a source of frustration when those work hours are extended by heading out with co-workers (team building days that … Continue reading

Celebrity Updates: Mysteries Solved

Granted, I don’t know all the details of Jennifer Aniston and Brad Pitt’s divorce, but I can’t help but wonder what the actress thinks about the current state of her ex-husband’s life. After all, no matter how hard she may try to concentrate on her own life there is no escaping the inordinate amount of press coverage Pitt and current flame Angelina Jolie constantly generate between their growing brood and charitable work—news of the couple makes headlines on a daily basis. But I digress. The topic of this blog is celebrity mysteries and one of them has evidently been solved … Continue reading

My Husband is Pretty Great

It’s nice to say that – when you consider how often you hear complaints from married couples. A few years ago, we got into the habit of complimenting each other regularly. We try not to complain too much, but of course, complaints are inevitable. But today, I have no real complaints – because my husband is pretty great and over the last week or two, he’s been pretty phenomenal. It’s going to be all right. My Surgery He was worried about the surgery that I needed to undergo as much as I was. But he did a great job of … Continue reading

A Note of Thanks: To My Husband

I’ve spent the last few days preparing for Thanksgiving and working with my daughter so that she understands how to say thank you and be thankful in all aspects of her life and not just at the big spread tomorrow. In that light, I want to say thank you for my husband. Let me tell you a little story of a little girl that didn’t dream about white picket fences and the house in suburbia. When I was growing up, through my pre-teen and teenage years, I remember wishing on eyelashes, on birthday candles and even on falling stars that … Continue reading

Family Traditions: A Day to Give Thanks

Tomorrow is the day we will officially celebrate Thanksgiving and for the last decade or so, I’ve celebrated Thanksgiving with my husband, family and friends, but growing up – my parents were British and they didn’t make a big deal out of the Thanksgiving holiday. For my grandmother’s part, she believed that it was a nice enough holiday but that we should be thankful all year long and not just on one particular day. Over the last decade, I’ve developed a few of my own Thanksgiving traditions and embraced the traditions of my husband’s families. For their part, the holiday … Continue reading

How to Prepare Your Wardrobe for the Holidays

Have you ever found yourself at the last minute trying to find a tie or a belt or a clean dress shirt for someone? Between holiday parties and various holiday events, such as Christmas choir, I am afraid that I have found myself in that situation. I remember last year, having to run out the night before a concert to get dress pants, shirt and tie for my oldest son, who grew out of his dressy clothes. The run to the store was not fun, and I probably paid more than I should have paid, because I was in an … Continue reading

Acupuncture and the Atkins Diet

One of the reasons that I chose the Atkins diet was because I wanted to lose weight. The other reason was to help me figure out if I really did have an allergy to gluten. My acupuncturist was able to help me confirm that I do, unfortunately, have a gluten allergy. I started going for acupuncture treatments earlier this year, months before starting the Atkins diet. My main objective with acupuncture was to see if it could help me with my many allergies. I remember that I had a particularly rough week, allergically speaking, and was searching for absolutely anything … Continue reading
