Millie Flamm is seven years old. She had concert tickets to see Justin Bieber, but was too sick to attend and had to sell the tickets. To make it up to her, Justin Bieber came to visit her and her family in private before the concert. There certainly seem to be a lot of little girls who adore Justin Bieber! Right in the Kisser

How much would you pay to ensure that your child’s pearly whites are straight as an arrow when she flashes a winning smile? Depending on how crooked your kid’s teeth are to start, the cost of standard orthodontic care runs between $5,000 and $7,000 with most dental insurance plans covering only a fraction of the total. So, imagine how poor you’d be if your kid had to wear braces for 11 years. As in 11 years straight. Or, basically, your kid’s entire childhood. For the record, most kids wear braces for two to three years. I was forced to wear … Continue reading

You Might Have to Kiss a Few Frogs

Dating after a divorce has got to be one of the most difficult things out there. How soon is too soon? When should I introduce them to my children? How will I know if they are the right one? What if we break up? What if my children don’t like him? There are just so many questions and so few answers. Every situation is different, there is no one right answer. You have to trust yourself to make those decisions, which isn’t always easy. The pressure to make the right decision can be unbearable at times. When I first started … Continue reading

Just Beachy

I finally finished the beach-themed scrapbook I’ve been working on for more than a month. It features a ton of photos like this one: My daughter adores the sun, sand and surf. She swims like a fish; however her new passion is boogie boarding. I really tried to highlight her love of riding waves in several layouts, though the rest of the memory album is dedicated to other beach adventures. One of my most favorite page designs pays homage to our last day at a beloved beach in Hawaii. I tried to recreate the topography of Hapuna Beach by covering … Continue reading

The Kissing Hand

Logan and I have started a little ritual whenever he goes to his dad’s now. We call it our “kissing hand.” When I was little my mother used to read me a book called “The Kissing Hand” by Audrey Penn. It is a touching story about a little raccoon about to start his first day of school. He expresses his fears at being away from his mother for the first time. She comes up with a sweet solution. She takes his palm in her hand and places a kiss in the center and holds it to his cheek. Whenever he … Continue reading

Never Been Kissed (1999)

“Never Been Kissed” is a romantic comedy starring Drew Barrymore as Josi Gellar, a young woman who’s intelligent and studious and good at her job . . . but not very stylish or “with it.” She doesn’t pay any attention to her clothes or her hair, just her work for the newspaper. When the idea strikes to send a journalist into the local high school to investigate what life is really like for today’s youth, Josi is chosen to be the one. At twenty-five, she still looks young. She registers for high school, but she feels really dumb about the … Continue reading

Extra Mayo, Hold the Kissing

A popular condiment company is falling out of favor with slews of its most loyal fans for airing a commercial that has some seeing red. Heinz Co. announced yesterday that it plans to pull a TV ad for mayonnaise that shows two men kissing. The company says the commercial was only run on British TV, but received enough negative feedback that it prompted Heinz execs to yank it. If you haven’t already seen the ad for Heinz Deli Mayo (it made its way onto YouTube in record time and was still there as of today) you aren’t missing much. The … Continue reading

The Kissing Bandit (1949)

“The Kissing Bandit” is a funny spoof on all the old bandito movies that came out of the era of the early West. Frank Sinatra stars as Ricardo, son of the original Kissing Bandit. He didn’t know of his father’s secret identity – he thought his father was an innkeeper in the territory of California. When he writes to the inn and tells Chico, his father’s good friend, that he intends to come to California and run the family business, Chico believes that Ricardo is coming to become the new Kissing Bandit. However, Ricardo has been to hotel management school … Continue reading
