Have a Heart This Valentine’s Day

At present our letterbox is inundated with store catalogues trying to convince us of the need to buy jewelry, sexy underwear, chocolates and all sorts of things for Valentine’s Day. However some people, celebrities among them, have taken a whole different approach to Valentine’s Day. Singer and former Australian Idol winner, Guy Sebastian and his wife Jules will share their love with the Red Cross. Guy and Jules are encouraging Australians, ’to treat their loved ones to a Red Cross Valentine’s donation and really make Valentine’s Day count by giving a life changing gift to someone in need.’ Valentine’s Day … Continue reading

A Different Approach to Valentine’s Day

‘Valentine’s Day is every day, or it should be.’ That’s what my darling husband said when I told him the title of my yesterday’s blog. You see, he agrees with me in thinking Valentines Day is overrated. He also believes, as I do, there’s no point making a big fuss over your spouse on that one day of the year if you’re not going to keep it up every day of every year. Okay, so you may not be able to afford gifts every day of the year, (and neither should you have to) but you can still show by … Continue reading

Frugal Valentines Blogs

Happy Valentine’s Day! I hope your day is filled with lots of good things. Here we are battling lots of snow. Yesterday, I paid a group of kids $15 to shovel the walk, and it was not very frugal. They did a very poor job. So, I was very resigned to having to shovel the rest of the snow today. Wow, as I was writing this, my very great neighbor knocked on the door. He offered to move my car so he could use his snow blower on the street. He already did our walk and the sidewalks on the … Continue reading

Finding Inspiration from Valentine’s

It’s another Valentine’s Day.  I’m not sure what Jonathan and I are going to do this year; last year I wrote about how we’ve rarely, if ever, celebrated the holiday.  He doesn’t even need to find me any candy hearts, because the box he bought me last year was so big I still have some left over. This year, I do kind of feel inspired to do something special for him.  However, I’m not sure if I actually want to do it on Valentine’s Day.  I’m still not sure that I like the idea of one day set aside for … Continue reading

What Sort of Marriage Is This?

This wasn’t the piece I had started for today but when I saw a news article, I couldn’t help but be astounded, outraged, sickened, horrified at what had happened in one marriage. How could any man do such a thing to his wife? What happened to love honor and cherish? Where are all the things we have been talking about in this blog site like mutual love, respect, acts of kindness, thoughtfulness, consideration, and encouragement? None of them are there. If you haven’t read the article, it is about a man who arranged through an on line list for someone … Continue reading

Love is In the Air

‘Love is the air,’ with TVs, stores, magazines etc all gearing up for Valentine’s Day. Everywhere you turn hearts and flowers dominate the displays. But love is more than just a romantic notion written about by songwriters, poets, novelists and movie script writers. Love can mean different things to different people, but I read a couple of good descriptions of love in a novel I’ve been reading. One was, ‘Allowances must be made for the people we love.’ That’s what Mary Ann was talking about too in her blog about unconditional love. It doesn’t depend on what they do but … Continue reading

What Would You Do For Love of Your Spouse?

What would you do for love? Sometimes it might be crazy thing. Or it might be giving up of your time to support your spouse and do something that is important or interesting to them. Yesterday we were at an Australia Day ceremony where a number of immigrants had decided to become Australian citizens. It was lovely to see their families supporting them. Just as important to me was that Mick went with me. Our choir was singing as we usually do at the Australia Day ceremony. We were supposed to sing at 12 but had to be there earlier … Continue reading

Creating a Wedding Wall

Yesterday I mentioned re-creating a wedding wall. So what is a wedding wall? This was something we had in a previous house. When she was younger our daughter could hardly wait for the day she would be married and go up on the wedding wall. It took us a while to get to it. After we moved, we put up couple of photos on whatever hooks happened to be already in the house but that was it. However, we always intended to put the wedding wall back together. Now, finally after a lot of time, fiddling and patience, it is … Continue reading

Tips for Moving Day Well, it is finally approaching! It’s going to be moving day. If you are planning a move, you have got to be both excited and overwhelmed.
