Lack of Insurance Makes Permanent Patients

What happens when a person who has no health insurance coverage ends up in a hospital with a serious illness? For some, it means that they become permanent patients of the hospital. They end up living there, and the hospital gets stuck paying for all of their medical bills. Part of the problem is connected to dysfunctions in the health care system. There are a lot of Americans who lack health insurance coverage. Until very recently, I was among that group. I used to say that I needed health insurance “in case I get hit by a bus and end … Continue reading

What if Hotels Billed Like Health Insurance?

Usually, when you purchase a product, or buy a service, you know ahead of time what it will cost. This is not the case with health insurance, or health care. Cost of Care put together a video that emphasizes just how ridiculous this system of billing is, and how it affects consumers. Health insurance is expensive. Part of the reason why is because health care is expensive. Another reason has to do with the complex and confusing way that health providers generate a bill. The bill then filters through a person’s health insurance company, and this usually makes things even … Continue reading

More Ways to Spice Up Seasonal Pet Shots

Okay, I’ve never actually seen a real hamster dressed up in a Santa’s hat for a Christmas card shoot, but that’s what Photoshop is for, right? Clearly, some pets are easier to deck out for a holiday photo shoot than others, but that shouldn’t stop you from adding your Fur Baby to a festive scene. Even if Fido doesn’t want to keep the reindeer antlers on his head, you can make him look merry by placing him in front of a seasonal background. Christmas trees and fireplaces are ideal backdrops for Christmas photos. Another option is to take Fluffy outside … Continue reading

The Downside of the Digital Photography Revolution

Many of the videographers I used to work with when I was in TV news have branched out and are now making money taking still photos with professional-grade digital cameras. I had the chance to catch up with one of them Saturday night and discovered that the digital photography revolution has some hidden downsides most amateur shutterbugs may not be aware of. My former colleague’s biggest complaint is that digital cameras are so affordable these days it has created a wave of amateur photographers thinking they can make a quick buck. My pal claims that in an effort to generate … Continue reading
