The Start of the Wedding Season

According to my local scrapbook store, February 14th kicks off wedding season. Personally, I thought wedding season didn’t start until May. Regardless, if you are planning to create a wedding scrapbook, now is a good time to research different styles, so when the big day arrives you will be prepared. For starters, unless you are an expert scrapper, you should not create an entire memory book from formal portraits. Formal photos are expensive and leave little room for error. However, they are also some of the best images you have to work with. If formal wedding portraits are all you … Continue reading

An Unforgettable Wedding?

Planning a wedding, can be a joy, or a nightmare. This depends largely on the people involved and their attitude towards the eventand to the marriage. What it should do is reflect the taste and personalities of the couple whose wedding it is. That was certainly true for Kevin Heinz and Jill Petersen who not only boogied up the aisle on their wedding day but then put the video of it up on You Tube. Since then it has been viewed by millions of people. In the video the entire bridal party, including with bride and groom boogey their way.The … Continue reading

Suri Starts School and Jessica Simpson Ends Country Music Career

It’s hard to believe, but the adorable spawn of Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes turns 3 on Saturday. Yup, Suri Cruise is getting to be a big girl, and now that she no longer clings to her bottle like a dryer sheet to a fuzzy sock, she’s headed off to school. Scientology school to be exact. According to reports, young Suri will attend the Church of Scientology’s $8,810 a year New Village Academy in Los Angeles in the fall. A British newspaper alleges Cruise is keen for his youngest child to learn the ways of his religion. But lest you … Continue reading

Weddings: Putting All That Planning Into Perspective

I’m conducting an experiment. Want to be a part of it? I’m trying to figure out how important all that wedding preparation ends up being. I got the idea back when my mom moved in with us earlier this year. I had to clean out the closet in what became her room so she’d have a place to hang her clothes. I ended up finding several wedding-related items. My wedding dress was in there. I knew it was in one of the closets, but if you’d asked me which one I wouldn’t have been able to tell you. I also … Continue reading

What to Choose: A Cliched Wedding Song or an Offbeat One?

Tuesday proved to be a bonanza idea-receiving day for me. Not only did Jade send me the link to the Dear Abby letter from the distraught widower, but a rep from SPIN.com contacted me, too. He wanted to let me know about an article on their site called “Marriage Anyone? Top 5 Coolest Wedding Songs” by Abigail Everdell. He thought it might make for either interesting conversation or spark readers to reminisce about the song they played at their wedding. I think it might do a little of both. Cliched Songs How many of you played Peter Gabriel’s “In Your … Continue reading

Cupcakes Instead of Wedding Cake?

It seems as though a new trend has begun in the idea of wedding reception planning. The traditional wedding reception consists of at least a bride’s cake (usually white), a groom’s cake (typically chocolate), nuts, mints, and punch. Some weddings are much more elaborate but these are usually thought to be the necessities. However, as mentioned in a previous article, weddings are taking on a much less formal and more relaxed tone. The idea behind the wedding cake has changed. Brides are now finding it more acceptable to offer their guests cupcakes instead of cake slices. The time and effort … Continue reading

Cutting Down Wedding Costs

The wedding season is here. With the rising costs of almost everything in our society, many try to cut back on the costs of their weddings by doing some of the work themselves. While it important not to take on so much that you create a very stressful day for yourself on your wedding day, there are a few ways that cutting down can easily be done. Decorations Consider doing the decorating yourself. In most areas the new wedding style is keeping it simple. Huge flower decorations and candelabras are not nearly as popular as they once were. Try using … Continue reading

No Wedding in Sight?

The season of weddings is well upon us. As a previous article on wedding stats revealed, summer months rank very high in wedding ceremonies. When friends, relatives, and others begin planning and talking of weddings, those who are not married may begin to also dream of their own plans. In life we seem to live in stages or steps. As we grow older there are natural life occurrences that we feel should be taking place. For example some are moving out of our parents’ home, choosing a career, getting a job, and yes marriage and children. Relationships also move in … Continue reading

Have a Unique Wedding Shower

As we all know, the season for weddings and wedding planning is upon us. As I walked through Target over the weekend I saw young women roaming the store with scanners and selecting the items that they wished to have on their wedding gift registry. Target is among some of the most popular places for women to register for wedding gift items. Wal-Mart, Linens and Things, and department stores such as Dillards are also popular choices. The most common wedding gift registry items include towels, dishes, silverware, home furnishings, and small appliances. In most cases the items are more directed … Continue reading

Super Star Wedding

Not even Mother Nature could dampen the wedding ceremony that had Beyonce Knowles saying, “I do” to rapper Jay-Z. According to a number of media outlets, the two mega-singing stars got hitched last night during an intimate gathering in Jay-Z’s Tribeca penthouse apartment. Sources say the couple wanted a very private affair with just a few dozen close friends and family. And it appears they got what they wanted. TV’s “Entertainment Tonight” has video of Gwyneth Paltrow and her husband, Coldplay singer Chris Martin, pulling into Jay-Z’s underground parking garage last night. Beyonce’s former Destiny’s Child bandmates – Kelly Rowland … Continue reading
