The Avengers: The Ultimate Superhero Movie

“The Avengers” blew my mind. How can I ever settle for just one superhero in a movie again, now that I’ve seen what it’s like with six? If you’re a fan of comic book movies, of superheroes, of big-budget action flicks with a whole lot of story and heart, then you don’t need to read any more of my review. Go see “The Avengers.” Now. Go see it multiple times. Tell Hollywood that they need to keep putting director (and script writer and co-story writer) Joss Whedon in charge of movies. If you’re not sure where you stand on superheroes, … Continue reading

If you like relaxing a little bit with a casual game on Facebook but have already built your barn, planted all the roses you care to plant and milked all of the alien cows on Farmville, then you might want something slightly different. Treasure Quest by Big Fish games has an incarnation on Facebook that is worth checking out. Finding Cheap Scrapbook Treasures

I often stroll around scrapbook supply stores and drool over all of the expensive tools and embellishments that I can’t afford. The exercise is humbling and depressing at the same time. It can also be inspiring if you are naturally creative. After all, not all scrapbook supplies are budget busters. In fact, some of the most unique scrapbook materials can be found in your home… for free. Take a few minutes the next time you are cleaning your home and look for every day items that can be repurposed as scrapbook embellishments. Doing so can save you a ton of … Continue reading

Scrapbooking Your Family Tree

During my genealogical research, I have accumulated quite a few old photos and heirlooms. Some I received from relatives, both near and far, and others I’ve had passed on to me specifically to include in my genealogy records. One elderly lady I met was so happy to give me some photos she had of my ancestors (who were also related to her in some manner) because she was afraid they would be thrown out after she died, since they didn’t have any meaning to her immediate family. I was honored to accept them. She passed away a few months ago. … Continue reading

How to Make a Unique Fall Wreath with Your Kids

If you have ever been on a fall nature hike with young children then you know that deep pockets come in very handy. I swear my preschooler is part squirrel. She collects anything and everything as though she was preparing for hibernation. Last week when her playgroup visited a local arboretum we left with dozens of nuts, leaves, blades of grass, sticks, flowers… you name it, my daughter had it crammed in her jacket pockets. One of the other moms suggested we create a homemade treasure box to bring along on our next hike to store her precious goods, but … Continue reading
