My Fake High School Wedding

This is the story of how I planned my wedding in high school. I’ll give you all a moment to recover from the shock: Families.com’s laid-back marriage blogger, she of the gender stereotyping rants and “what’s the big fuss” attitude toward schmoopy romance and wedding culture planned a wedding in her high school days. Never fear: I did it because I had to for class. My crazy gym/health teacher, the same woman who’d also make us write papers for our self-defense gym classes, made all of her students plan weddings as part of our sexual health education unit. It had … Continue reading

Unexpected Difficulties with Wedding Invitations

I had a hard time choosing my wedding invitations. I suppose you could say I was a stereotypical picky bride about them, though I never got angry or chewed anyone out. I just wanted something simple, and I couldn’t find anything on the market that fit. I did have an ideal wedding invitation, and it was totally possible to make. The idea came from a close friend of mine. He said it should just be a blank white card, with the words “We’re Getting Married” alone on the front. Opening the card would reveal the simple words “You Should Come.” … Continue reading

Ideas for Wedding Reception Beverages

Recently I have taken a look into some of the details of wedding planning. So far I have discussed wedding dresses, wedding invitations and wedding guests. Today I want to put some focus on the wedding reception. There are several different factors that influence your wedding reception. A couple of those are the food and the beverages. Most people put a lot of focus on the food determining how much and what to serve. However the beverages typically get les attention. Although they may not consume as much of your planning time as the food, the beverages that you serve … Continue reading

Limiting the Number of Wedding Guests

In a previous article I discussed the task of choosing wedding invitations. Determining who and how many people you will invite to your wedding can be one of the most difficult tasks that you come across. Inviting guests can be a tricky thing to sort through. In some cases there are no limits to how many people you can invite. However in other cases couples are limited. Couples may be limited by wedding funds. The more guests that you have, the more food that you need at the reception. This can eat up a lot of your ceremony money. In … Continue reading

Thoughts on Wedding Invitations

Wedding season is well underway. Wedding plans have been taking place for some time now. June weddings have been taking place and July, August, and September planners are busily making their wedding arrangements. One important task that many couples undertake when planning their wedding is the issue of invitations. There are many different ways that couples can deal with sending invitations. Some couples choose not to send invitations at all. Instead they do a general announcement of their wedding. Some publish the wedding details in the newspaper and simply invite all friends and family. While this method can be cheaper … Continue reading

Contrasting Romances in Much Ado About Nothing

Perhaps my favorite example of my type of romance is the Shakespeare play “Much Ado About Nothing.” I like it because it’s a great play (the original romantic comedy), and I admit because a petty part of me likes the legitimacy Shakespeare lends my ideals of romance and marriage. Enter the two couples: the young Claudio and Hero, in starry-eyed infatuation with one another, and the older bickering Beatrice and Benedick, who always try to outdo each other in a war of wits. Benedick and Claudio are soldiers who made the acquaintance of Beatrice and Hero when they stayed at … Continue reading

Friendship: the Foundation of Marriage

Last week my husband and I made cookies for breakfast. It is supposed to be healthier to eat a batch of cookies, or really any dessert, early in the morning rather than later at night. This way we have more time to burn off those extra calories. That’s not why we made them, though. We made them because the night before I’d experimented with making Pasta Puttanesca (not bad, though I think in the future I’d just swap the anchovies for tuna), and its smell still hung around the kitchen. I figured the best way to get rid of it … Continue reading

Monday, June 23 Is Your Argument over Control? Some couples take part in arguments due to control issues. They are more interested in seeing who can control the other rather than the issue at hand.
