Pre-Existing Condition Plan is Suspending Enrollment

The Pre-Existing Condition Insurance Plan, (PCIP) one of the first portions of the Affordable Care Act to go into affect, is suspending enrollment. The short answer as to the reason why is because the funding is running out. Those currently enrolled will still be covered by the plan. The Pre-Existing Condition Plan (PCIP) is part of the Affordable Care Act. It was created in 2010, and was one of the very first health reform changes to go into affect. The main purpose of the PCIP was to guarantee health insurance coverage for people who had previously been struggling to find … Continue reading

More States that Will have Federal Exchanges

There are three potential options that states can choose from for their health insurance exchanges. Some states have selected to create a state-based exchange. Another option is a federal and state partnership. Others have decided to allow the federal government to create an exchange for their state. Here are some more of the states that will have federal exchanges. Missouri On November 6, 2012 (the same day as the 2012 Presidential election), Missouri voters passed a ballot measure blocking Governor Jay Nixon from establishing an exchange via Executive Order. The Governor initially supported running a state-based exchange, but he announced … Continue reading

Another option is a federal and state partnership. Others have decided to allow the federal government to create an exchange for their state. Here are some of the states that will have federal exchanges. Will Your State Create a Health Insurance Exchange? – Part 1

Technically speaking, all states will have a health insurance exchange in 2014. It is simply a matter of if your state will make their own, or, if your state will have the federal government make one for them. Here is a quick review of what I have learned so far about what individual states have decided to do. Alabama Governor Robert Bentley promised, in May of 2012, to veto any bill that would enable Alabama to begin working on a state run exchange. Alabama has received funding from a planning grant and from a Level One Establishment grant to create … Continue reading

Minnesota is Working on a State Health Insurance Exchange

Not every state has decided to create a state health insurance exchange. Many that did choose to make one have been working hard to get it ready to go. Minnesota recently selected the company that will help them to build the technical part of their exchange. Last year, in April, the Minnesota House of Representatives introduced a bill that would ban Minnesota from creating a health insurance exchange. This was a bill presented by the Republican politicians in the Minnesota House of Representatives. If this bill were passed into law, it would mean that Minnesota would end up with a … Continue reading

Dangers of Exercising in Hot Weather

I don’t know what the weather is like in your neck of the woods. But here in Wisconsin we are experiencing unusually warm weather. In fact, I was just watching a newscast this morning and the weatherman said that normally we might experience a day or two in any given week with temps in the 90’s. But the temperatures have been in the 90’s, with high humidity consistently for days now, with no relief in sight. Now for those who are used to this or live in areas of the country where it hits triple digits, I’m probably not getting … Continue reading
