Selecting a Theme

It’s a rare scrapbooker that can turn a bunch of random pictures into a cohesive story. Typically, memory albums are created with a particular theme in mind. By selecting a theme, it’s easier to sort photos and create layouts that yield a natural flow. This makes it much easier for a reader to make sense of your page designs. Choosing a theme is a relatively simple task, or at least it should be. One of the most popular scrapbook themes is the holiday album. Whether it is Christmas, Thanksgiving, Halloween, Fourth of July or Easter, the sky is the limit … Continue reading

Choosing Your Wedding Cake

Ah, the wedding cake. Probably the item most scrutinized, with the exception of the wedding dress. Have you chosen what kind of cake you’d like for your wedding? Let’s look at some of the different styles. This cake is probably one of the most classic. Each tier is set on a small plastic tray, and those trays are then snapped onto columns, which are snapped onto the bottom layer. You can put anything you like between the layers, as shown here with this couple’s use of goblets. This style of cake is probably the second-most classic. The layers are stacked … Continue reading

Selecting the Flowers for Your Wedding

Earlier, we talked about choosing the size of your wedding bouquet. Now it’s time to break the whole flower thing down to the finer basics – what kinds of flowers do you want? There are a number of different variables to go into the equation. Let’s take a look at them. 1. What time of year are you getting married? If you’re working with a florist, you can be almost sure of getting the flowers you want, regardless of season, because florist flowers are grown in greenhouses. However, there are some things, such as waxflower, which are only available during … Continue reading

Choosing a Wedding Theme

When planning a wedding, choosing theme never really entered my mind. When I think of the word “theme” I think of a type of character or well-known symbol. However the more that I thought about having a wedding theme, the more I realized that all weddings have a theme. While the theme may be more suitably considered a “mood”, in essence it is still a theme. I have been to weddings that have had a cowboy or country theme where the bridesmaids and groomsmen wore boots. I have been to a wedding with a John Deere theme where everything was … Continue reading

Disney Weddings: The Basics

As one of my best friends prepares for her upcoming wedding, I am reminded that many people are beginning to plan their own weddings for the year. One of the most coveted wedding experiences is having the complete fairy tale wedding at the Walt Disney World or Disneyland Resort. First things first: It’s virtually impossible to completely cover the Disney Wedding experience in just one article, so over the next two months, I will be covering just about everything Disney Wedding from intimate ceremonies to elaborate ceremonies amidst Cinderella Castle to honeymooning at Disney, or as some like to call … Continue reading

Creating a Memorable Photo Book

I said I was over photo books, but they are just so dang popular these days it’s hard to imagine that the trend will fade anytime soon. If you can’t beat ‘em, stick with ‘em, I guess. The reason I am tiring of the books is that I find that the end result is not as wonderful as I’d hope it’d be. Then, again, that could be my fault. I’ve made more than a dozen photo books, but in each case I struggle to select images that tell a comprehensive story minus the text. It seems the key to creating … Continue reading

The One Who Makes the Difference …

Last week, I had the opportunity to read Minor Adjustments, an LDS fiction novel by Rachael Renee Anderson. The premise is one we’ve heard before—a child is left an orphan, and an unwilling person is chosen as guardian, only to fall in love with the child and decide to follow through. This book, however, brings in a lot of elements that keep it from being mundane. It’s set in the gorgeous land of Australia, the guardian isn’t even related to the child, and there are moments of tenderness and humor throughout. I enjoyed it a lot. There’s one theme throughout … Continue reading

We would love to have plenty of Christmas plants and flowers, however, our budget isn’t very large. So, I have been gathering all of the ideas I can get in order to save money. Taking a Couple’s Cruise

With the amount of space given to pictures of happy couples gazing loving into each other’s eyes in cruise lines’ glossy magazine ads you would think that sea voyages are mainly aimed at newlyweds or lovers longing to recreate their honeymoon. Cruising can be one of the most romantic vacation options, and while it may seem as though all ships cater to couples there are some vessels within a fleet that can contribute to the feeling of “amore” more than others. Take a look: Princess Cruises Cruise experts say the best ships for romance on this line include the Crown … Continue reading
